Does holding my cat by the scruff of it's neck hurt it? ?

  1. It depends on how you do it. If you're pulling out hair, yes. If you're making sure to hold it firmly by the skin part, that's how mother cat carried him, and it does not hurt him.


  2. No it doesnt hurt the cat. Infact that's the only way you should hold the cat. Any other means will hurt the cat.

  3. No, thats how the cats mother carries the babies so its used to it. Just try to be gentle .

  6. No. Thats how I see the vets hold the kitties when they are doing something kind of tricky and they want them to be still like clipping their nails. It kind of puts them in a "trance" they're used to their mommies doing it.

  7. I am a veterinary nurse and no it does not hurt your cat to hold he/she by the scruff. This just gives the holder or you control and it also puts your cat into a "kitten-like"  state which brings them back to when their mother held them.
