Question:

Does hot sauce from a taco shop in plastic to-go containers go bad?

I brought home a burrito from a taco shop about 5 hours ago. The hot sauce has been sitting on the counter ever since. The lids of the little to-go cups are expanding and when I open them they kind of "pop". Are they still edible? Can they go bad in 5 hours?

  1. Ewwwwwww, why risk the diahrea episode. Toss it!

Taco Bell ones can go bad if not refridgerated.

  2. nah I wouldn't worry about it.  If the hot sauce was cold when you got it and you left the top on then when it warmed up the air would expand and pop the top a bit.  Enjoy it.

  3. might vinegar up! loosing strengh? if refriged should last say a week!

  4. Yes, they can go bad after 2 hours once they have been opened and left unrefrigerated.  Throw it away.

If it is one of those little packs (like at Taco Bell), they will stay safe unopened for about 3 months.  After that time, then throw them away also.

    Always remember this little saying:

    When in Doubt,

    Throw it Out.
