How would you prefer your teacher dressed.... professional but modern? Or more casual? Would their dress change they way you saw them as an authority figure, or would you be more likely to listen to someone who dressed casually?

  1. Yes, the dress of the teacher does affect the way the students respond. We had a teacher come in to teach wearing sweats that said 'luscious' on her butt.

  2. It doesn't matter at all. Your teacher is your teacher. No matter how s/he looks/dresses s/he is still your teacher.

Teachers are there to nurture children, not to be models.

However, teachers also have to respect the fact that if they dress to casually, their students would not regard them as a person with authority, rather as a friend to have a nice chat with. Teachers have to dress for whatever subject they're taking. How do you expect a Physical Education teacher to teach in a shirt and a tie or a dress? Dress appropriately, that is.

  3. last year my 2 favorite teachers dressed more casual but still professional...... it was more easy for me to talk to them about things involving school and my own problems

they just bonded with all the students better than some other teachers

  4. i think one should not be much particular about the attire of their teachers. the teachers are source of information to the students. they should learn the subject as far as possible from the teacher. they should not get carried away by their attire. the attire of the teacher even depends on their financial position and their taste and passions.

  5. I think teachers should dress like they are going to work.  That can be professional but modern, like a casual office.  I don't think a tie is required for men or that women need to wear suits. Slacks and a shirt and blouse are fine.   Right or wrong dress does affect how people perceive others, including teachers.  We had a very young (20's) vice-principal at an elementary school who would come to school in denim overalls, wondering why the parents didn't take her very seriously.  She didn't dress like she took her position seriously.
