  1. Hydrogen will not work well in a high compression engine. The burning temperature is high enough that u will produce huge amounts of NO2.


  2. No, it can't be. Octane is the organic name that means "eight carbons in a single chain". Gasoline is comprised of many organic chains of different lengths, so the octane rating has to do with the amount of 8 C molecules you have (these happen to be the ones your engine burns most efficiently). Hydrogen just comes as a diatomic molecule i.e. there are two of them bonded to each other. So there is no other arrangement for hydrogen molecules.

  3. I allways thought that ' octane' is a term to describe resistance to pre-ignition in an internal combustion engine. The best engines geared to run on hydrogen are the jet engines. They perform better on this fuel than any others. Wankel engines are the best choice for this fuel as well. The problem is in how to store enough of this fuel, to make it practical for long distances.
