  1. No. Not Unless you're replacing your motherboard as well.

  2. No.

  3. If you are just changing the CPU and NOT the mainboard as well then no you won't have to reinstall Windows. If you are changing the board and CPU then you can try and run a repair instead of re-install if you have XP. You need the original CD (not recovery disc) and Licence number, boot from the CD, click through the 1st option and select Load Windows, at the 2nd screen press R for repair (not in the 1st screen as it is also there) and follow the prompts. It should find a previous version of XP and give you the option to repair, you may need to re-register some programs (not all) but it will not remove your data.

  4. Nope, it should be fine.

U might need to call Microsoft after u install the new processor and restart the computer to re-activate Windows. A message will appear on your screen with the phone number, if u need to call them.

  5. No

Your processor just translates the numbers and programs in your RAM from your Hard Drive which both store data

your OS is saved on your hard drive and since it's still there you should never have a problem

the only problem would be if your processor wasn't compatible with your OS

  6. no

  7. Nope, but make sure that your motherboard accepts the new processor or it can damage your computer!

  8. In most circumstances changing processor won't require re-installing Windows.

That said, before you start opening up your PC it's always worth backing up anything important. I recommend online backup with Mozy.com, the basic service is free.

  9. I would just to make sure it doesn't break. My computer almost broke and it was hard to get it back to normal. I'd back up my files to a external drive and re install windows.
