Does insurance cover bariatric surgeries if there is a health threatening reason?

Yes normally your insurance would cover a bariatric surgery, especially if there is a health threatening reason...I know someone who didn't have major health problems and she had the lap band procedure done...she some problems with her knees and back...and if your BMI is at or above the number...I think your BMI needs to be at 34 or higher to be considered for certain bariatric procedures, but you can check with your physician, or in the internet...


  2. There's no one size fits all answer.

    It depends on your policy, and what state you live in.  You'll have to call the number on the back of your card and ask.

  3. bariatric is always covered once it is proven that it is threatening and if its related to obesity then there is no problem... This is a special procedure and insurance may request for records... so just keep the records with you..... ok....
