  1. That depends on your policy. You may consult about this with your insurance agency.

  2. I have tried it myself, here is some good informations.

  3. Spine surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her Spine surgery in India by the company called Dheeraj Bojwani Consultants .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 25 % of the cost she was quoted in America.

Dheeraj Bojwani Consultants is very famous in India. They arrange spine surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as Spine and other orthopedic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

    Hope this helps.

  4. It depends on the plan.  There are low cost plans out there, that limit surgery coverage to $5,000.  Then there are traditional medical plans, which would pay everything EXCEPT the maximum out of pocket amount, $2500 or such.

If you've had coverage for a while, so there isn't any preexisting condition issue, on a traditional type plan, they should cover it.

If you're trying to shop around for a plan to buy, to get the surgery. .. . it's probably not going to happen.

  5. It will depend on your policy.  And more specifically, how it treat pre-existing, or genetic conditions.

It may also depend on how much of a difference  it will make in your life, or if it will make the difference between not working, and working.

I have a friend who's daughter has hearing problems in both ears.  Hearing aids cost them $4000.  Their insurance isn't paying because their daughter isn't deaf - just hard of hearing.

  6. I am pretty sure most insurance companies do. (with a doctor's refferal, obviously.) Mine did. Also, when I got my surgery it was $70,000 including staying in the hospital, shots, epedural, screws, rods, surgery fee, ect. And if your insurance WON'T pay for it and you are under 18 or 21 (it varies) you can often get the surgery at Shriners or some other childrens hospitals for free or at least a LOT less. Good luck!!!

  7. At Shriners Hospitals for Children, children up to the age of 18 with orthopaedic conditions (including scoliosis) are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment at no charge regardless of financial need.

If think Shriners Hospitals might be able to help, you can call the toll-free patient referral line:

    U.S.: 1-800-237-5055.

    Canada: 1-800-361-7256

I was a Shriner's patient and now I'm a nurse, so speaking as a patient and as a professional, I think Shriner's is the best place for scoliosis patients! Shriner's goes above and beyond for their kids.
