Does is it really matter what beauty school I attend???

I'm planning on going to Aveda Institute and the tuition is close to 16,000.

Another beauty school is 7,000 and its pretty known and you use two different product lines Paul Mitchell and Redken.

With Aveda though, you do get a nationally recognized name. But either way your getting your license.

I have to take out a lot of loans to make Aveda happen. After I graduate the program either way I wil have to asist at a salon to get working at a nice salon. I'm scared that hairstylists don't make enough money to pay that huge loan back.

Also, I heard that hairstylists don't get health insurance either so that's another concern.

Should I attend Aveda or the other school?

  1. no it doesn't really matter, you need to look at places you would like to work and do the research.  You need to be innovative, creative and think outside the box to really succeed in the hair care business.  if you don't - you'll be doing the 10 hour weave, for nothing but pocket change.  Extend your mind, research the high dollar stylists, find out where they began.  Before you spend that money on Aveda - look if anyone "famous" has made it big by attending that school.  Sometimes, money isn't everything.  Good Luck to you - you make it creative, you do the research and you apply yourself - you'll succeed. (cheesy saying, but it sounded good at the moment)

By the way, I'm in a really bad mood tonight, so I am sorry (in advance) if this posting was harsh :)

  2. No..It dosen't matter...Your getting the same license, and learning the same things, and more. People who graduate from a local school, can do better then one who graduated from a aveda school...Hairstylists do get health insurance, It jsut depends on the salon, If the salon is from a big corporation like Regis Salon, You will...If it's local, You may not get it.

  3. If you are new to the world of loans, then all the jargon and terminology can seem very confusing. There are so many different terms to understand, and unless you know some of them you will not find the best loan deal to suit your needs. If you want to know more, then here is a guide to some of the basic loan terms you might need to know. When you borrow money in the form of a loan, the money you receive is called an advance. The more money you want to borrow, then the bigger your loan advance. It is called an advance because you are getting the money in advance of paying for it.The APR, or Annual Percentage Rate, is the amount of interest you are charged on your loan amount. This amount is written as a percentage, and refers to the total you are charged each year. APR is one of the primary features for comparison between loans, as it is a standard measurement for all loans.

The lower the APR, then the cheaper the loan interest will be. Credit scoring is a method that lenders use to determine your eligibility for a loan. They ask a series of questions about your earnings and financial situation. Each answer you give is scored, and the better your score then the more likely you are to be accepted for a loan. If you score badly then you might be declined for the loan you want. The loan term is the agreed time over which you will repay the loan. You will repay the loan monthly over this period until the loan and interest is fully paid back. Loan terms on personal loans usually range from about 1 to 10 years, with mortgage loan terms being longer at around 15 to 25 years. The longer the loan term, the less your monthly payments will be, but the more you will have to pay back in interest over the years.

  4. no

  5. Go into salons and ask which school they'd rather hire graduates from.  Although one school is clearly cheaper and you're getting the same liscense, many schools have a much better reputation.  Teachers might be better at the more expensive school and more willing to help.  Salons will often know which school is better and if you come from a lousy school they might not want you to work in their salon.
