is it true that if you get a social security number now days (2008)that it will start with 6?

and if you got your social security like back in 1995 it would start with a 1?

  2. Nope, it's  based on where you were born.

  3. Social security numbers are issued with numbers based on the area of the country you live in.  It probably matches the first number of your zip code.  I know my done and from what I've seen California starts with a 9 but I could be wrong.
