It appears to be only teenage girls that have horrible grammar and punctuation. Does it annoy anybody else, or am I just being picky?

Even my sister on MSN will speak like this:

e.g.

HER: EY! H0wz u bub?

ME: Hey Kathy, yeah, I'm okay. Where are you?

HER: Oo man im lyk @ kriistz h0use&&can uu ask mum if she c0uld lyyk giveus 10$$ n piick us up c00z lykk we is br0ke aS haHAhahaHa. Cia0 Luvzu xx

ME: Um...okay? =)

  1. Yes.  This is not a cell phone, so please do not use tex language here.  It is repulsive, and idiotic.

  2. Yes. Singles & Dating is deeply infected with such text message-speak.  If I had a dollar for every "just b urself" over there, I could hire Jeeves to address me in the King's English.

  3. I think that is how they text their friends. I also find it out of this world annoying. But it will be their habit to break when they have real jobs and have to communicate professionally in a working enviorment.

  4. But boys do it, too, in which case, I think: "Future WalMart stock boy, father to five children by Taco Bell cashier, never paid a dime in child support."

I have to disagree with tracey on this matter. It is more likely he will be the father to five children from 5 different women

Boys do it too and i tend to think they aren't going to amount to much in life

  5. It annoys me when anyone does it.  I've met ESL speakers who asked me for help with their English, and then insisted on typing like that.  I refuse to help them unless they use English to the best of their abilities.

And it seems to be evenly distributed between the genders.

  6. It makes me ill. And then these illiterates and their supporters call the critics "spelling n**i's".

There's nothing wrong with trying to maintain good English.

  7. oh, it annoys the c**p out of me. I think it takes more effort to write like that therefore it is stupid to do so. Plus, you get into the habit or misspelling everything and that is really bad.

  8. Yes, it does, but each to their own. I tolerate it. What annoys me most is when schools do not prohibit this "txt tlk" in examinations!

  9. Are you jealous of her texting skillz?

  10. Yes. I immediately think..."future Taco Bell cashier and single mother of five by age 20."

But boys do it, too, in which case, I think: "Future WalMart stock boy, father to five children by Taco Bell cashier, never paid a dime in child support."

  11. YES! they think they are so cool doing that! i do that sometimes but not that much i might be like  heyy or wats up but thats all i do i dont go  crazy with it haha it gets so annoying!

  12. It annoys me, no matter who does it.  Illiteracy isn't cute.

What gets me is that I know some college English professors who say they have students who turn in assignments with this kind of grammar, punctuation and spelling.  Even if the kids try to write properly, the text speak creeps in.  I know that English is a very fluid language, but there's fluid and then there's unintelligible.

  13. It annoys me like crazy whenever my friends do that. Half of the time it takes me forever to finally figure out what they've written down. English exists for a reason!

  14. Yeah it annoys the c**p out of me,

and when they write in caps,

    its just no need tbh

  15. Honestly, people who type like that are either teeny boppers or preteens. That sort of typing is so old school, like 6 years ago. The spelling gets worse and more worse every year by these kids. It's not cool to type like that anymore.
