I mean... I just googled it. It took me two seconds to find out that it was 16 with parental consent.

  1. I don't know why you got thumbs downs on the second one,

    But the first one, maybe its because you are encouraging a 16 year old girl to have s*x.  I don't know, I don't think teenagers, or anybody whos not married should have s*x. I understand you were giving them a valid answer, but its still not smart for someone who probably doesn't even have her license to be having s*x.

  2. The world is full of different opinions and perspectives.   It's what makes life interesting.  I've only been posting on this site for a month, but I've already figured out that my opinions often differ from the majority who post in the parenting section.  But that's OK. It makes me think and acknowledge different points of view. That's always a good thing, and it comes in very handy when you have to work with a diverse group of people.  Getting thumbs down on an anonymous forum is nothing compared to having to handle criticism or conflict in the workplace.

    OK, so do I get "thumbs up" for this answer?

  3. I don't get annoyed by it- I just ignore it. A 16 year old girl working 9 hours a day is against the law in most states- regardless of whatever the minimum age of consent for s*x is in them. Where I live, in central Delaware, the minimum consent age is 18, not 16, and we also have additional penalties for what's called our "offensive touching" statutes. These are the laws which make certain activities, such as the "making out" which kids your age do, Amy, illegal- especially for guys. Just ignore the thumbs down- most of the people who give them are doing it out of spite or out of ignorance, not because they have any particular interest in hurting you.

    But what about kids who don't have parental consent, or even parental KNOWLEDGE, of what they are doing?? That description fits most of the teens I know, Amy. If you were going to have s*x, would you tell your mom or dad about it first and ask their permission? Somehow, I doubt that. That's why I said what I did. And the bit about the "offensive touching" laws is strictly true- I work for a state agency, and there have been times when we have had to refuse services to people convicted of crimes under those laws. And BTW, knock off the smart @ss remarks about knowing more than I do- you don't.

  4. Because most people on here really don't know anything. If they don't like what they read, they will thumbs down you. I've had the same thing happen many times, while people who obviously have no clue what they are talking about get thumbs up.

    Nothing on here is reliable, people just say and do whatever they want.

  5. h**l yeah!

    But it is expected most of the time.

    I would have thumbed up you though, cause I mean I am from Jersey and you are right, the age of consent is 16 but there is usually a 2 year consensual agreement limit, so 18 would be okay, but it gets shady on 19... and you only need to be 15 to work in NJ and you can work as much as you want I think... but you need papers before 17 I Think, not completely sure about that one.

    yeah I just looked up the labor law... I thought we were talking about just a full time job so 8 hours a day... but yeah forcing someone to work in any case is almost wrong, but 16 yeah like a child labor problem.

    That sucks though, people are really high on themselves sometimes.

    Additional Edit,

    I can't tell if you are talking about me, but I am not 40 I'm 24.

    I looked up the real law, and apparently it would only be considered Sexual Assault in certain circumstances. So they can have s*x at 16 with whoever they want... the two year prospect applies to the ages between 13 and 15.... If the person violating the law is above those ages it is sexual assault ...

    This is the NJ Criminal Code followed by an explanation :

    "2C:14-2. Sexual assault. a. An actor is guilty of aggravated sexual assault if he commits an act of sexual penetration with another person under any one of the following circumstances:

    (1)The victim is less than 13 years old;

    (2)The victim is at least 13 but less than 16 years old; and

    (a)The actor is related to the victim by blood or affinity to the third degree, or

    (b)The actor has supervisory or disciplinary power over the victim by virtue of the actor's legal, professional, or occupational status, or

    (c)The actor is a resource family parent, a guardian, or stands in loco parentis within the household;

    (3)The act is committed during the commission, or attempted commission, whether alone or with one or more other persons, of robbery, kidnapping, homicide, aggravated assault on another, burglary, arson or criminal escape;

    (4)The actor is armed with a weapon or any object fashioned in such a manner as to lead the victim to reasonably believe it to be a weapon and threatens by word or gesture to use the weapon or object;

    (5)The actor is aided or abetted by one or more other persons and the actor uses physical force or coercion;

    (6)The actor uses physical force or coercion and severe personal injury is sustained by the victim;

    (7)The victim is one whom the actor knew or should have known was physically helpless, mentally defective or mentally incapacitated.

    Aggravated sexual assault is a crime of the first degree.

    b.An actor is guilty of sexual assault if he commits an act of sexual contact with a victim who is less than 13 years old and the actor is at least four years older than the victim.

    c.An actor is guilty of sexual assault if he commits an act of sexual penetration with another person under any one of the following circumstances:

    (1)The actor uses physical force or coercion, but the victim does not sustain severe personal injury;

    (2)The victim is on probation or parole, or is detained in a hospital, prison or other institution and the actor has supervisory or disciplinary power over the victim by virtue of the actor's legal, professional or occupational status;

    ***(3)The victim is at least 16 but less than 18 years old and:

    (a)The actor is related to the victim by blood or affinity to the third degree; or

    (b)The actor has supervisory or disciplinary power of any nature or in any capacity over the victim; or

    (c)The actor is a resource family parent, a guardian, or stands in loco parentis within the household;

    (4)The victim is at least 13 but less than 16 years old and the actor is at least four years older than the victim.***

    Sexual assault is a crime of the second degree.

    L.1978, c.95; amended 1979, c.178, s.26; 1983, c.249, s.2; 1989, c.228, s.3; 1997, c.194, s.1; 2001, c.60; 2004, c.130, s.13."

    The law does not specifically say that a person can legally have s*x at 16, but what it does is provide a penalty for anyone having s*x with someone under 16. It also provides penalties for having s*x with someone who is 16-18, but only under the specific circumstances. So, unless the older person is related to, in charge of, or in a position of authority over the 16 year old, then the law does not provide a penalty for the act. So we're all wrong.

    If it isn't illegal, it is frowned upon, but strangely... legal.

  6. Don't worry about it...thumbs up and thumbs down don't matter anyway.  You gave your opinion, you gave proof and sources, and that's that.  People are immature and don't like to have their opinions crossed, especially if that means they are in the wrong.

    So ignore the whole thumbs up and thumbs down thing...it has no significance, especially here in Adolescents...

  7. It can be annoying when people do that, but they will be less likely to if you list your sources. If you Googled it anyway, you might as well take the time to copy and past the link.

    Also, you received thumbs down regarding how many hours a 16-year-old can work because the information you gave WAS incorrect. Or it was mostly incorrect, anyway. There are no federal limits on how many hours a 16-year-old can work and most states don't have any either. Of the states that do set a limit, only about half say no more than 8 hours, and that is usually just during school weeks.

    So I guess if you don't want to get thumbs down, site your sources and make sure your information is correct.

    And the age of consent in Delaware IS 18!

  8. I would see how that would be annoying.

    Here (britain) the age of consent is also 16 and i would be annoyed if anyone tried to say i was wrong.

  9. Yeah, kinda.

    Just forget about it.

  10. Don't know why other than maybe you aren't giving any links to support your answers.  Clearly, you are correct and even when I was a teenager, I reported my employer for working those under 18 over 8 hours a day (which was illegal even then).  The fines put him out of business (good!) but it also smartened up surrounding employers to stop exploitative working practices.

  11. Yea it pisses me off, just because your blunt with the truth. Then if the people don't like the answers they shouldnt ask the question. Makes sense right?! Yeah I thought it did too :D

  12. that's ridiculous! i also hate when people give you a thumbs down for having a different opinion than theirs.

  13. The problem is, thumbs ups/downs are given on personal feelings, not the actual value of the answer.

    As a result, I don't even bother looking at the ratings of questions. I've seen some well-thought answers with good sources get nothing but thumbs down because they weren't critical enough of the Bush Administration, or were anti-this or Pro-that.

    The best solution is just to ignore the ratings system, and appeal the ignorant people who report posts because they didn't like the answer. Yahoo answers has a weighting system to post reporting, so every time some fool reports a post because they don't like the answer, it reduces the weight that their report will get.

  14. AMY, WHAT YOU POINTED OUT IS 100% CORRECT SO THE HECK WITH  what  THE IDIOTS Say..............i get thumbs down as well however it does not faze me in the least, because it doesn't change my life one way or the other, honestly please let it go and just

    realize your more important than any of these clowns.

    Just because someone doesn't agree with what you say, doesn't take away your right to say it.....................''REMEMBER THAT''

    Best of the best to you and have a great thumbs up day.

  15. Yeah, it annoys me a lot!  If you've done research and know the correct answer, you should be able to correct the person who got it wrong without getting a thumbs down for it!
