Does it bother when you see players fist pumping after points?

i was watching, and am currently watching the ivonavic dechy match. earlier in the match ivanovic was fist pumping on meaningless points, and when her opponent was hitting some balls in the net. Personally, that would tick me off. After I made an error I wouldn't want to see my opponent celebrating my mistake. I hope Dechy wins she showed a lot more class in this match, no fist pumps yellling or throwing of the racket :)

  1. Yeah I agree they shouldn't do it when their opponent made a mistake.  If i was playing someone and they did it to me, I would be raging.  However, they should be able to celebrate when they made an amazing shot or won the match coz, after all, footballers celebrate a goal =)

  2. Believe me I was hoping for Dechy to win the match against Ivanovic.  Unfortunately, it did not happen.  Well, I just have to wish that Sharapova will take Ivanovic out.

  3. I think it's fine I don't see anything wrong with it. If the opponent misses or makes a mistake it's likely because your return was that much better.

  4. I think if it's been a long rally and you've one with an amazing shot, it's acceptable. I do think it shows arrogance and over-competitiveness when you do it over meaningless points.

  5. if youre playin  grandslams  you shouldnt really be complainin about  such  stuff  and  get  on with  it....i  got no probs  you win a point u celebrate ...i win one  i  celebrate  . fair deal .

if  i choose to be stoical, doesnt mean  that  i can  expect that from  others...wats  ur view...

  6. There is this boy in my school who plays a bunch of sports. Whenever we play soccer or basketball and he scores a point, he throws his hands in the air and yells really loud! Whenever somebody makes a mistake and the opponent pumps his fist, it really puts that person down. It's straight out unsportsmanlike.

  7. It really depends on the situation.

I think a fist pump would be appropriate, acceptable and even expected when a player makes a great shot to win a point (i.e. a winner).

However, when the fist pump occurs after the opponent has made a mistake, yes, I do find it rude and inconsiderate.

Having said that, I'm not a professional tennis player so I can only imagine the gamut of emotions that these players experience when they are on the court.  I guess sometimes the stress gets so high, and the corresponding relief/joy of winning a point is just too powerful to control... so I guess I can't really blame anyone for celebrating winning a point, whether it's because of a great play on their part or the result of their opponent's error.

  8. No, I think it's pretty cool. It also pumps up the crowd, and shows the fans that you really care about the match and the tournament. =-0

  9. i am sooo glad other people feel the same way - it's the same with friends cheering for you in matches politely only cheering your winners not opponents' errors. everyone fusses over how pretty she is and overlook her poor sportsmanship. same as with Djokovic who i used to root for when he was up and coming, playing well but very modest and good natured. now with his crazy chest pumps and smirking the audience when they cheer for his opponent etc...he is way too arrogant.
