  1. OK, it's a democratic republic.

  2. It bugs you? Why ....? What is your slant on this?

It is a representative democracy ... that has wobbly wheels ...

What do you think it is?

  3. It used to feel like a Democracy, but lately we've been ruled by Aristocracy (the class that has all the money), and Bureaucracy.

  4. You are VERY easy to bug.

  5. Sadly, most Americans aren't educated enough about our own government to know why it isn't one.

  6. What country do you live in? When did the US stop being able to vote for their officials? I must have missed something.

Technically, we are a Representative Republic and have always been. Tell me what has changed to make you thing we are not anymore.

  7. There are types of democracy, representative and direct. The U.S. is a representative democracy.

  8. Yes.  Democracy, to translate the Greek literally, means "mob rule".

  9. No, it doesn't.  There are plenty of things that are much more annoying.

  10. Well, it actually a democratic representative republic. Thank god it's not a true democracy. A true democracy would be horrible to live under.

  11. Yes, Kamikaze Kitty, because "they ain't no such animal". No country on earth is now or has ever been a "democracy". Ancient Greece often gets the credit for inventing democracy, but 30% of the people were slaves; women had no rights; children had no rights, so NO DEMOCRACY. The U.S. was set up as a Republican form of Government (i.e., a "representative" form).

So, yes, it bugs me, because it isn't true. People should call things what they are...
