  1. As stated, yes it is quite expensive in Munich in September, as anyone could imagine.  3 million people visit within a 3 week span, so they really sock it to ya.

    Here's your alternative

If you're willing to sleep on the ground in a dorm, it costs €14 pp and a bunk bed will run you about €19.  Camping costs even less.  Best deal in the entire area and you'll meet LOTS of new friends.

  2. Yes, accomodation during Oktoberfest in Munich is scarce and expensive.

Get your reservation as early as possible and try to stay further away.

  3. Yes, more than usual. The prices go up here in Munich for the duration of the fest, and availability is very limited, especially if you're looking for this year. Get moving if you are looking for this coming fest.

Alternative; look in the outlying surrounding areas - Freising, Fürstenfeldbruck or Dachau for example - for availability. The prices won't change. There will be travel time involved.

Edit: Oktoberfest is only in Munich during specific times - it is not all over Germany as the fella below states.

  4. I agree with the Chimp but will add that there October Fest all over Germany.  Any town with a brewery holds ones.  I enjoyed the smaller ones much more than the huge one in Munich.  You can save $$$ on food and housing by going to our of there/
