  1. It depends on where you live.  France and New Zealand have night rates.  There are probably other countries as well.  The US uses the same rate day and night.  Night rates just help lower the usage during the heavy day hours.  A lot of people in France and New Zealand have timers on their hot water heaters to only come on during the night.  Shower early.


  2. We have a flat rate that covers 24 hours.  That means it costs the same to use a light bulb any time of the day or night.  But, if you are running an air conditioner, you might use less energy in the cooler evening hours than you would in the middle of the day when it is hotter.
