  1. if you factor in the number of passengers each can carry and the rate of speed with which they get them there, assuming the most people the fastest is better, then the question basically answers itself regardless of the actual cost of materials...efficiency over the life of an item contributes greatly to its price


  2. Since nobody makes dirigible airships anymore, that would be very difficult to answer.  Are you wanting to buy one?  I could find out what 747's are selling for, but Boeing may not tell us what it cost them to produce one.  I'm guessing that's a secret.

  4. Kiss is wrong:  there are several companies that manufacture airships, including the original Luftschiffbau Zeppelin company that built all the WW1 Zeppelins, the Hindenburg, and many others.

    There are several companies in the US, Europe, and Japan that will build you a small blimp for 2-3 million.  A Zeppelin NT will run you about 10 million.

    The price of a new Boeing 747-400 is about 230 million.  So the airship is a lot cheaper.  Have a nice flight
