  1. if you are not in the apartment there is two things you could do the first is that the temperature goes up so it wont turn on and off or shut it off . the thing is it will take more time to cool off  if you turned it off.

if you are  in your apartment try to keep it in a temperature  you are confortable with and  at night lower it so you can have a  good night.

  2. actually turning up.  Cause everytime you turn it off it uses so much energy trying to play catch up that energy output is greater by an average of 8.9% than turning it up.

  3. I'm not sure what you want me to say but I can tell you that turning it off is more expensive than leaving it on.

I recommend a digital thermostat. That way you can turn it up to like 80 degrees when no one is at home and then at 4:30 it goes down to 74 degrees (or whatever you like). That way it stays tolerable all day long without running all day. And it's easy for it to cool down for you when yall get home.

  4. It depends on if you are talking about a window unit or central air conditioning. Window units should be turned off when no one is in the room or you are gone for the day. For central AC leave the power on and set the thermostat to a temperature you and your roommate can agree to. However to save energy and costs set up the temperature 2 to 3 degrees higher when you leave the house. The act of shutting off the power makes no difference (Mom is right) since the thermostat controls the unit based on the temperature you set.

  5. Having a programmable thermostat will save you about 10 percent on your electric bill.

  6. Air conditioners use A LOT of electricity and can rack up your bill if left on all the time. If there's a way to turn it off completely during the day when you're not at home, you'll save a lot of money.
