I know some European countries charge to use their toilets, and I was wondering if Germany did that, too.

  1. Some do, some don't.

  2. It depends on where you are in Germany - some places yes, some no, and I  have not noticed a pattern.  It's good to have some small change just in case.  I'd say the vast  majority of public toilets are not pay, but then you'll run into one where you need to pay.

  3. Lived there 3 years, Evan has it right.

  4. It depends on where you go.  If it's a restaurant, shop, or department store, then generally no, but it is appreciated if you give them buisness first.  Along the Autobahn, you will most likely have to pay about .50 Euros.  I have found most of these places give you a voucher in return though, ( also worth .50 cents) that you can use to purchase items from the store.  Some places along the Autobahn in eastern Germany didn't charge to go to the bathroom, but one of them had a bathroom attendent present, and it is generally polite to tip them about .25 to .50 cents.  I have heard that train stations charge too, but I have never been to one.

  5. Yes you generally do. If you go to a gas station it costs about 50 euro cents. But most places it is polite to make a donation-generally 50 euro cents or a euro. Basically a tip for the cleaning lady or guy to keep the bathrooms clean and such.

  6. Yes. Restrooms at the Autobahn, Train stations, public restrooms in the cities.

  7. Some places yes, like most amusement parks and Abbys do.  Usually the bathrooms are free, but if they're not, it should only be 50 Euro cents or 1 Euro.

  8. i am from germany and yes, it does cost you  money but not every public toilet will only some and if so, i will only cost 25 to 50 german penny's : - )

  9. In my hometown you don't
