  1. well i would think they make tons of money but ya it kinda does cause if you think about it;

    if the cartoon is good they want you to do better and you keep getting paid but if the cartoon sucks and gets canceled...you fired and out of money/job

    but overall your pay is constant

  2. Making a lot of money takes doing a lot of hard work.  Period. If you want to get into animation, study animations/art and get into the industry.  Just don't expect to be rolling in the dough right away.  I am afraid life does not work that way.  But that should not stop you, unless your motivation is the money. . . .

  3. Well, as far as I know, most places animators work, if it's not a big company like Disney, are independent studios/teams who get contracted for work, so yeah, if your studio/team produces some exceptional, popular material, then they're more likely to be remembered by producers, and so have a better chance to land bigger deals in the future, which means more money for the company, which might ultimately mean a higher pay grade for the animators.

    As far as why don't they make a lot of money in the first place, I think the answer would be because it's hard for them to become well-known enough to demand more money. Unfortunately, in the showbiz culture of today (at least outside of Japan), animation isn't taken as seriously as it should be by audiences and sponsors, and is instead relegated to kids' shows, which helps to perpetuate the problem, in my opinion.  Also, the animators themselves don't become as popular as, say, live-film actors because they don't appear in their works, and it's therefore harder for them to build a reputation.  It's usually only when they've become directors/animators or writers/animators or something like that (e.g. Walt Disney, Hayao Miyazaki), that they really start getting recognition for their work, even though it's those animators working frame by frame that are doing the bulk of the work.

  4. Animation is a very difficult artform to master, just like any type of art you do, you got to know how animation is really done... If you do become an animator, you need to start getting tons of experience... There are principles of animation, mastering those can increase your skills, and you can have a higher job performance... If you did make your own cartoons, you would probably have a higher salary depending on where you work at, and the quality of your cartoon... If your heart really is set in animation, don't worry about the money, just try to keep experimenting with motion in drawings, and understand how traditional animations works... Animators / Cartoonist don't make a'lot of money in the beginning, but as soon as you are in the workforce getting more experience you will likely be a great animator some day!
