Does it even matter if global warming might not exist.? We still have to assume it does.?

I mean if there is 30% chance it will rain Sunday you make an indoor contigency plan for your picnic. If there is 30% chance that you will destroy all life in the solar system there is no contingency plan for that.

Plus all that we have to give up is smelly polluted air. This will not be the first time that man kind has had to change what the economy is based on. It has changed in my lifetime from an industrial economy to a service economy.

Aren't the doubters just keeping the US from being the country that makes the most money from the change to a new energy source and giving that right to the Germans? Even if it does not exist the worst side effect is that Arab nations drop back into feudalism as their black gold becomes worthless black gunk.

Is there a downside to assuming that Global warming is fact?

  1. Other than the fact that the measures taken to prevent further climate change may be temporarily costly for governments (although it's likely that most of them would save money in the future), I don't think that there is a downside. Im sick of all the debate on whether global warming is real or not, because, honestly, what could be the worst part of reducing our fossil fuel burning and the release of toxic chemicals into the atmosphere?

  2. Yes there is a downside.  Every dime, every hour, every thing we spend on global warming could be spent fixing pressing and actually occurring problems.  AIDS, cancer, illiteracy, poverty, crime, and a host of other ills continue to plague humans, and cause real death and suffering.  None of this is theoretical or predicted by specious models.

We could be spending our time "fixing" what could actually be a blessing and not a curse.  A few degree rise in temperatures and a doubling of CO2 levels would mean more food production, milder winters, and in many ways a more pleasant climate.

Most of the people ready to "fix" global warming are simply angling for money and or power, both of which have to come from us.  We may be fixing a problem, but we will definitely be giving up part of our lives to do it.

We don't truly know what tomorrow brings.  Major catastrophe aside we will make immense technological strides in the coming decades.  Inventions and technologies will eventually make the concern over CO2 as anachronistic as 19th century concerns over horse manure in large cities.

Basically we will be wasting our time fixing what likely is a non-problem all the while innovation will render the problem moot.

  3. You assume those of us who do not swallow the GW hysteria are not conservationists.  The CO2 myth could bankrupt the one country that could make a difference.  The like of ARCO should not have been allowed to bury solar panel technology for 20 years under the patients laws.  This country still does not have and energy policy.  40% of electricity is lost in it’s transmit ion.  We waste energy with glass recycling; making ethanol from food and using more energy than it produces; energy wasteful building codes;   traffic jams.  Spending money on ozone depletion, acid rain and global warming harms the planet.  I don’t believe in harming the planet.  I also don’t believe man is causing any GW.  The earth is going through its normal cycle,  Even with us here!

  4. That really is some of the worst logic I have heard. First off, no scientific study has shown we contribute any meaningful amounts to warming.

Using your logic, we should immediately start building a device to destroy any meteorites which may hit the planet. Sure it will costs billions, but who knows, eventually we probably will be hit by a catastrophic meteor.

We should also build huge walls around our shores to protect against tsunamis. We know for a fact that another tsunami will hit somewhere. We should spend the trillions to engulf the world to protect us.

What about volcanoes? We know for a fact that active volcanoes will erupt. Should we not forcibly move people who live close to volcanoes at least 200 miles away. Don't worry about the cost, or peoples rights to choose where they live.

And what about the sun? eventually it will go super nova. Should we not spend every stinking dime to try and eliminate this threat?

And finally, you better choose a religion just in case God does exist. What if us non-believers are wrong about that?

I am always amazed how little people use their brain when it comes to global warming.

  5. WTF are you talking about.  From what I get out of your rant is you blame oil for global warming and if we combat Global Warming we can at least stick it to the arabs if nothing else.

What is wrong by focusing on developing newer, cleaner technology to use that black gunk.  We have oil/coal to last this world for a hundreds if not thousands of years, especially if its used more efficently.  Cars today pollute so little that in some cases they actually clean the are as they drive along.

You spit on clean coal technology and stand in the way of nuclear.  What can we do for you....solar and wind?  You want us to grow corn and saturate the soil with fertilizers and pesticides?  How about we recycle that oil from the restuarants to make biodiesel....no wait, you outlawed that because of the transfats.

Well I guess we can all sit around in our hemp clothing singing about the clean air!  Now if you can get the rest of the world to inflict the same self depriving laws on themselves as you would have forced upon us we can truely save the planet.

  6. Whether or not global warming is caused by us or by a natural change in our planet may be argued for a long time. There is extremely clear evidence that something is happening to the ice at both ends of our Earth. It is also extremely clear that humans are treating our planet like it has an endless ability to absorb damage. It is now time to make a major change in our energy production systems. If several of our "alternative" energy sources were given the same subsidies that have ben given for decades to nuclear and centuries to coal and oil, they might not look to expensive today. Despite decades of research and many subsidies, the best solution to nuclear waste is to reprossess it into another nuclear waste including plutonium from which bombs can be made. Does ethanol really sound so bad as a stopgap till other fuels can be developed? Global warming is just a great clue that we had better get busy cleaning up this mess we are creating.

By the way, California, Germany, Japan , Spain and several Arab countries are building solar power plants in a big way while the United States president pretty much ignores it.

  7. Any one with basic knowledge know that the climatic change is FACT. 100% How soon the planet becomes inhabitable is the only question.

  8. How come you're so quick to dismiss alcohol as a scam but not global warming?
