Question:

Does it feel like we are having conversations and discussions instead of answering questions here?

I was looking for a cure for my avatar disease and decided to check their help link. I was glancing through some of the results and I came across one unrelated question and answer that talked about what Y/A is for, which is to answer questions but not to discuss anything..like a forum...Then I started to think about GWS and wonder if we are getting away with murder here :P because...let's admit it. We do a lot of discussing.

So in respect to this question and to the question that has came up several times (recently actually)....Have we really ran out of things to ask each other?

  1. Like if everyone is happy does it matter?

  2. i do agree, but the reason for that is because the regulars here have come to know each other a bit.

i do prefer it myself, but i know what you mean about getting away with murder because Y/A is basically supposed to be question and then answer. but that sounds so robotic. having a connection even if its a small one can make an answer so much better.

edit: is it you thats been doing all the reporting?

  3. Yes - but I kind of like that, more interesting than a simple ask and answer session.  If it was up to me we'd go over life, the universe and everything :-)

  4. There are a lot of 'questions' asked by people who have already made up their minds, im not a fan of those questions, but there are some questions that spark debate but aslong as the asker asked the question to discover something or have a number of views outlined, then thats fine by me.

  5. Well I like to answer but also discuss the problems.  I mean why not it helps sometimes.

  6. Are questions meant to get answers, or to elicit discussion?  Only the asker can answer that question.

Sometimes we aren't sure about what the real "answer" is, if there even is one, and we just want ideas about other people's views and suggestions.  Other questions are so subjective that the only thing we can do is to contribute to a discussion.  The questioner can even get ideas and formulate their own answer from the discussion.

Not all answers are direct as you seem to be assuming them to be.  And who says Y/A is about answering questions and not about discussing?  Its an institution of the collective social body, which means its run by the people who ask and "answer", and its purpose is dictated by how those so-called questions and answers are formulated and responded to.
