Does it get easier to choose a career/ lifestyle when you go to college?

I'm in highschool right now. Every other month, I'm into a new career. I have no idea what direction I want to go in life. I don't know what career I'll want, if I ever want to get married, or anything else about my life. Right now I'm just taking a bunch of honors/ ap classes to keep my options open. I change my mind a lot. About everything. I'm afraid that I'll go to college and choose twenty different majors that I like before I find one to stick with. I'm also afraid that I'll want to move to fifty different places. Everything I think I want to persue as a career just doesn't satisfy my mind. Did you know what you wanted to do when you were in highschool? Do you ever regret your decision? I don't want to be doing something I hate or don't find fulfilling for the rest of my life. All advice helps, thanks!

  1. yes

  2. I was the same way. I didn't know what I wanted to do at all. I am in college right now and I still don't know what I want to do. I just picked a career that I don't know anything about and just started going for that. I doubt I will pursue this career, I really don't know what would be best for me. No it's not easier but you do have more opportunities to learn about different careers.

  3. The best part about still being in high school is that you do not have to answer that. Im a senior at ASU and am going to attend law school next year but I began college taking classes to become a pharmacist.  Ya know, I took a semester of classes that I enjoyed and really got hooked in politics so try taking some simple classes your first semester so that you can enjoy yourself and not be overburdened.  You will have a lot of different opinions about things than you do now by the time you are done with your freshmen year and sometimes, you just need to discover who you are before you decide what you want to do.  Have fun and go to class.  llol

  4. No, I'm in my fifth major at school and I'm 28. I have 2 degrees already. I'm now doing something that I should have started out doing because it is in the field that I have worked in for 8 years. Try different things there is nothing wrong with that. If you want to move, go for it. It's a real learning experience. If you end up doing something that you hate you can always do something else. There is nothing holding you to do one thing.

  5. Honestly, it depends on the person. Some people are set on a single dream and stay on that course through high school and then uni. Some people are set through high school, do courses in uni and decide they hate what they've chosen and/or found something they were better at/loved more. Then there are people who really don't know what the h**l is going on. lol.

So really, take a bunch of electives, dabble in everything. Keeping your options open is a great idea.

And don't panic if you feel like you should be more prepared.

There ARE people who go through university do their job and suddenly change their minds about what they're doing.

It's not a done deal, so don't worry. You honestly think every single person in ever single field studied that exact field back in high school, college or uni? Heck no. It's just hard work and perseverence.

Unless of course, you want to become a doctor or a lawyer...you know what I mean. ;) anyway good luck!
