  1. If they have an "instant on" circuit it will help. You can tell these by light that are still on when the major function of the machine is off. Computers are a good example, the sound stays on, the screen stays on, some printers stay on even if the computer is turned off.

  2. Absolutely!  The biggest waste of electricity is keeping your cell phone charger plugged in all the time.  I think it helps to unplug things.  I do, everything except my TV...its just too difficult to get back there.

  3. It made a big difference on my electric bill, but I have a lot of electronics that are vampires.  Some, like my convection oven, I cannot unplug without taking the entire oven out of the wall which I am not strong enough to do on a regular basis.  I suppose it depends on how many vampires you have sucking power in their non-use or resting periods.  In my case, I had a microwave, coffee maker, three cable boxes, 2 computers, 2 scanners, cell phone chargers, electric razor charger, hair care appliances, a host of power tools and garden tools in the garage, my automatic sprinkler system, my phones.  You can tell that it is a vampire appliance if it has a digital display for the time while not in use.  At least unplugging them or putting them on strips that I can turn off, I've been saving on average 20-30 bucks a month, but I had a lot of those sneaky vampires at my house.

  4. Won't matter atol if you not a using them. They are not drawing any power either way.

  5. Sure it does. Especially if you have a plasma tv. Check out www.pickocc.org.

  6. yep actually does..my mom unplugs the tv in the living room at night and we saved over 20 dollars a month on the electric bill

  7. toaster-no

    coffee pot- not much

    microwave-not much

    printer-yes

    tv - yes

    computer- yes

    rechargable phones- yes

basically any thing with the big converters (heavy black box on cord) yes

  8. You will have a basic charge but you certainly can save a lot by turning things off. TVs and lights are major things that get left on. Your fridge and freezer use large amounts ( keep them closed and vacuume under) but the biggest user would be Air conditioning. Switching to LED lighting and flourescent bulbs will save over time. If you have electric heat try wearing warmer clothes in the house and keep the temp set a bit lower. This would also improve appliance efficiency.
