  1. At birth a porcupine's spines are smaller and softer and are laying flat against the body.  The quills harden and grow overtime.

  2. lol no they are born without their spikes.  They grow in later.

  3. Baby porkys are born head first, and the quills are just soft little hair like things that harden as they grow older.

Each baby is in it's own birth sack, and the female cleans each baby as it arrives.

A baby's quills are pretty flemsy up until he get about ready to wean from his momma.

      Does that help?

  4. It takes a porcupine's quills about four hours to harden after they are born. So no it doesn't hurt.
