How do you stop motorcyclists? Do you brake then when you're stopped do you shift to first gear? Or do you shift down as you approach? Does it hurt the bike to down shift very quickly?

  1. Down shifting very fast can strain the engine

Every gear can only stand a certain speed

    for example:

    1st gear  25km/hr  2nd gear  60km/hr   3rd gear  90km/hr

Lets say you are going 80km/hr and you quickly shift down to first gear, your straining the engine becuase the bike is still at 80lm/hr and its suddenly down to a gear that can only go 20km/hr

    make sense?

If its done continiously yes it can strain you transmision and other engine parts

    gd luck

  2. Its about control.  Its not a car.  Downshifting can cause a loss of control.  SQUEEZE HARD, like they taught me.

  3. hold in that cluch and brake front and back.... 75% front 25% back

  4. If I have plenty of time and space and depending how fast I'm going, I'll gradually brake and shift down to a stop.

Then other times, I will literally just pop it into neutral and practically coast to a stop without downshifting at all.

If I have to stop super fast, I may not even shift at all and just hold in the clutch and brake and adjust my gears after I've stopped.

  5. i'm not so sure about just doing it quickly, but kicking the shifter or slamming it won't be good...

  6. 1. no. as long as you pull the clutch fully, you are disengaging the tranny from the engine.

    2. sit upright if possible. apply equal pressure to the front     and rear brakes.

    3. ? if you brake, you will stop. approaching a stop, I release the throttle, apply 100% clutch, and toe down to a lower gear or into neutral situation depending. All the while applying the front and rear brake. Learn how to stop from 1st gear. DO this over until you can master it. Then practice from 2nd gear, slow down, shift into 1st, and stop.

You can tap down quickly, just let the toe shifter pop up to its detent each time. If you are going to quickly downshift, remember to hold the clutch in the whoel time.

4.No, use the clutch. not using the clutch may tear up the synchros in the tranny.

  7. Seems  to me in my limited experience down shifting fast would be useful in not hitting something not prepared for. Long as you stay behind the handlebars I would guess it is not an issue.

  8. Downshift and use engine and gears to slow before brakes .....fast shifting ,,kicking down hard and fast all the time will cause excess and unnecessary wear on the shifting forks and gears inside the transmission..you might even break a shifting arm within the trans and that'll cost ya....jaming the gears or power shifting ( unless on a race track) is not good....shift, up or down, smooth and positive and save yourself some money in the long run...
