Does it hurt to get tattoos removed?

I want to get a couple tattoos removed but I've heard that it hurts alot and is very expensive. So my question is does it really hurt that bad and is it really all that expensive? I only want answers from people who've experienced this before. Thank you!!!

I think some places put local anesthetic or even sedate you... don't they?

It feels like someone if putting your tattoo on a scalding hot stove. No joke. and yes, it is expensive.

YES much more then the tattoo itself!
