Does it hurt to get your toung pierced?

i really want to get my toung pierced and i want to get a tattoo and my mom said i could get one of the 2 for my b-day so i was wondering which one hurt more and what the pros and cons are THX

I have a tattoo (arm band) and 9 piercings, 1 being my tongue.  None of it hurt.  I didn't feel pain with the tattoo during the whole process, which shockingly only took 20-30 minutes to complete and the piercings were painless.  I hate needles and blood, but tats and piercings are a thrill for me, and amazingly that's two things I can do needle wise that doesn't effect me or make me sick to my stomach. 

The tongue piercing I had it done last Saturday.  He had me rinse my mouth, then chose where the best spot was to align it, clamped it, and then stuck it and inserted the barbell.  Quick and easy.  Got down off the table and rinsed again.  Mine didn't bleed or swell afterwards.  I did end up having 1 day of swelling and that was 2 days after the piercing took place but only lasted a day.  It's now 1 week later and I'm going in to see my piercer to see about putting a normal sized barbell in today.

As for my tat...I drew it up and showed the guy.  He copied it, applied it to my arm, and began placing it.  I was expecting a lot of pain, but it didn't even phase me. 

It's all about pain tolerance.  Also, if your parents are paying, decide which will be best for you with school (if a student), work (if you work), and personal life.  Don't go based on how much this or that costs, but by what you want and how it will reflect who you are, as well as what you can see yourself having in the long run.  I was given the same option at age 18, I was told I can get a piercing or tat, and the piercings could only be my tongue or belly.  I really wanted my tat, but knew that if I picked something at that point, I may not be happy in the future, and the piercings wouldn't effect my life in any way, so I got my belly pierced.  Whichever you choose, just be sure you're happy with it and will be in the long run.
