  1. Getting them actually taken out doesn't hurt because they give you lots of anesthetic, but afterward can be kind of unpleasant. You will be pretty swollen and generally miserable for at least a week after, but they should give you some nice painkillers to help with the soreness.  


  2. I went under anesthesia during the actual procedure, that was painless.  It was recovering after having them removed that was really painful.  Your oral surgeon should provide you with adequate pain killers to help with pain and discomfort.  They'll also prescribe an antibiotic, which will help with swelling, which also helps dull the pain.
