I know that it doesn't hurt when it nibbles but when it really feels threatened, then does it hurt?

  1. I have gerbils, and they have nibbled on my fingers out of curiosity. It's not that bad, just don't mistreat them or frighten them and they won't bite you hard. If you're really afraid, wear a pair of gloves when handling them.

  2. Well, it depends on how high your pain tolerance is. I, myself, have low pain tolerance. When my gerbil bit me, it did hurt a lot at first and I did bleed. I think the pain just came from the initial shock that she bit me, but afterwards, I was fine. It's not so severe that you ever need stitches. Their teeth are so small.

  3. I've only been bitten twice, once by each gerbil I have, and I work in a pet store.

One was on the nose- MAJORLY embarrasing- because I was letting him run around on me, and he got to my chest and stood up on his hind legs and kind of peered at me, so I bowed my head and he bit my nose.

The other one bit my thumb when I was picking it up, because it was new and I scared it.

Yes, they hurt and bleed, but stiches? It's not that bad! And they'll only do it if they're scared/over curious. (He wasn't scared when he bit my nose, just...curious.)

  4. um, YEAH!! It can draw blood and because their teeth are SO sharp and long it could cause the need of stitches. I've been bitten several times due to not washing my hands after I ate and the hamster liked the taste. I had to get stitches twice for it.  I finally learned my lesson.

  5. not sure about gerbil's but mice hurt...probably feels the same

  6. Tutock must've been VERY mean to her gerbils. It only hurts if you are tormenting them and they're warning you. If they nibble on you simply because you smell like food, you barely feel it. And they will learn that you are not food and wont continue biting. They will only bite you to defend themselves when you hurt them or when you first get them because they aren't good with people. It may draw a little blood, but it doesn't sting or hurt. For the most part, it wont hurt at all. If you want a gerbil and are afraid of them biting, get one. Because it doesn't hurt. And their teeth aren't very sharp or long, as long as you give them things to chew on so their teeth don't grow to long   :)
