I wear paddock (low) boots and would like to wear my half chaps over the breeches. Does anyone else do this?

  1. Well if they were the same colour as the half chaps, or similar, then it should look fine! Like:

Beige/Cream breeches and brown half chaps

Black breeches and black half chaps

Just don't wear colours that don't match, like blue and brown

    Hope that helps

  2. Basically everyone does this it's how ur suppose to wear them

  3. Not at all. That is what they are for.  They are an alternative to tall boots, or convert short boots to tall boots.  You can wear them over jeans, but they were designed to be worn over breeches.

  4. it would look worse if you werent wearing any pants at all under them lol

  5. It would look worse if you didn't!

If you have actual jodhpurs (elastic at the bottom that goes under your foot) then half chaps aren't necessary- they just look better and give you way more support (most people wear them). If you have breeches (no elastic, just maybe Velcro at the ankles) then you should wear half chaps to help keep your breeches from riding up. No, it won't look funny at all! I wear half chaps all the time- I wouldn't NOT wear them;)

There is a young girl at my barn who has paddock boots and breeches, she doesn't wear half chaps though and it looks very uncomfortable! I can't imagine riding like that- I would get very annoyed and uncomfortable with the Velcro riding up my ankle and feeling the leather rubbing against my skin.

Half chaps are not only for comfort though, they are also support for your ankles!

If you don't have tons of money to spend, buy a pair of sued half chaps- their about 60 and mine have lasted for three years. Note that if you want to show with half chaps, then buy a second pair and don't use them for schooling- once sued half chaps are dirty, there is no getting them clean! If you want to spend a bit more money, then buy leather half chaps, their easily cleaned too. Tall boots are most popular for showing- but I wouldn't wear them for schooling, half chaps are more functional and you can take them off after you ride, that way you can work (clean stalls, clean horse etc.) and you won't get them dirty.

  6. I don't think it looks silly at all. Paddocks, half chaps, and breeches are the norm for me when I'm schooling. They're nice to have when it's hot out. I wouldn't recommend showing in paddocks and half chaps, though. That DOES look silly, and I've seen a lot of people doing it lately.

  7. No, not at all.  That is what half chaps are for, and that is exactly how you are supposed to wear them.  They are an alternative to a tall boot.

  8. It doesn't look silly at all.  I usually wear jeans and half chaps but sometimes I'll wear breeches and half chaps (and the very odd occasion, tall boots and breeches).  Just make sure you have a "regular" sock and a boot sock (the tall sock that comes up to almost your knee) - it will probably make it a bit comfier for you.

  9. don't do it.. it's silly looking.

Actually i like top save the horse and ride the cowboy

  10. I wear half chaps over my breeches which most people do. At my stable anway. I live in southwest Florida, so wearing tall boots all of the time would be ridiculous. Half chaps over breeches doesn't look silly, it's functional and a must unless you want to bruise up your inside calves.

  11. No it doesn't look silly at all. That's what a lot of people at my barn do.

  12. nooo I do it at shows. Around the stables I wear jeans, low boots like you have and half chaps. I shows I wear breeches and my halfchaps. It looks just fine. I know many, many people who do that.

  13. yea. like for the equestrian team or fair, if we dont have time to switch into jeans, we just throw our chaps over our breeches.

    oh wait.. EDIT:

you said half chaps. ok sry. ive never done that before... hm. i guess you could. i sometimes wear them w/ shorts if im just riding around the barn

  14. It is fine, people do it all the time.  But my question is, who cares if it looks good or not if it helps you ride better?  I am a girly girl and love to look nice, but when I ride, I don't really care what I look like.  And here is the secret, no one else does either!
