In my experience, it is common for people to dine alone in fine restaurants. If it really is a nice restaurant, then a diversity of people will go there. The common denominator is that they appreciate it and can afford it. Most people are there to enjoy themselves, not to pass judgment on the other patrons. So if you want to go there, and you're alone, just go. Don't worry about what other people might think, because, believe it or or not, their dining experience isn't about you.

No, but I am sure you can find a friend to go with you. Most nice restaurants have a lot of loners around lunch.

Not at all. I work in a fine dining establishment, and we serve usually 6-7 tables a night where people are dining by themselves.

Bring a book, chat with your server, or bring some work from the office, and get caught up. It's not uncommon, and can be quite enjoyable.

Not at all.  It takes confidence and more than a litte guts to do it at first but why let what other people might think stop you from enjoying a good meal at a nice restaurant. If you feel nervous about it try going to lunch first and work your way up to dinner.  Trust me no one is even gonna be thinking about it and should some one look at you raise your glass, nod and smile. some fine restaurants have sittings for single person. Its not uncommon to dine alone, especially if u live in a big city.

No--if you're brave enough to do it, why not? It's a shame to miss an opportunity to try a restaurant that looks good, particularly when you're traveling. It's even empowering when you stop caring what other people think.

If you're a little uncomfortable about it, eat at the bar if you can. It's less conspicuous that you're alone, and you can chat with the bartender or other people around you.

I have ALWAYS hated eating ANYWHERE alone!!!!  Even Mcdonalds!  It just doesnt feel right to eat in a restaraunt alone.  Noone to talk with while u r waiting.  Just as bad as going to a movie alone!  Hate that too!  But atleast at a movie u r in the dark!  lol  Its always better to go with someone else to dinner and a movie!

Not at all. I have done it often. You want to eat and enjoy a great meal, so do it! If anyone does look at you funny, feel proud that you are more self-confident than they are.

No.  It can feel a little weird at first, but it shows that you are not scared of being alone.  Sometime people read, play or do stuff on their cell/PDA/laptop.
