Because I have TONS of frozen raspberries in the freezer that I hand picked like a year ago, and I want to make the jam as best as I can make it.....can I achieve this with the ones I have now frozen or the store bought ones because they are very expensive here. Which would be the better outcome for homemade jam.....All answers are welcome

  1. Ether or as long as the store bought ones have no added sugar and are just frozen. Be sure when you thaw the ones you have frozen that you don't poor off any juice add a little extra pectin (sure gel) and watch your boil time.

  2. I find frozen raspberries are juicier. you will have to use more sugar/pectin. The taste is about the same but the jam will have to be sweeter to have the same texture as you whould have with fresh berries

  3. Really doesn't matter. But,,,,,, I'm sure the fresh berries would give more flavor. Depends on your preference. If I had tons of frozen, that's what I'd use.

  4. I make jam all the time. I`ve used both fresh and frozen fruit, with great success .Strawberries, raspberries and rhubarb.

Remember you will not need to use as much liquid in the recepie though.

  5. When you freeze anything, you can't freeze it for more then a year, or else it goes bad, even fruit, and if you have jam, I would go and pick some more and use them then instead of waiting. But if you do wait, plan first. Say it's rasberry season, well, you want these for a dessert for thanksgiving. So pick later in the seaon so you don't have to freeze for so long. Hope it works out!!
