Question:

Does it make a difference what college I go to as an undergraduate?

I want to go to the University of Iowa's creative writing program when I get my masters. Before this I plan to major in English as an undergraduate. From what I understand, undergraduate courses are basically the same everywhere, though, so I was wondering if it matters how prestigious my school is when applying to the creative writing programs at other colleges. If I went to a community college would they pretty much ignore my application? If the college I go to does matter, which ones are the best? Thank you.

  1. You need to pay attention to the education that you get yes. The Univ of IA has plans for both undergraduate and masters. So something you may want to consider is choosing to go directly to the Univ of Iowa for everything rather than moving from college to college.

I suggest this is because when you change colleges from your undergraduate to your MBA, will need to transfer transcripts. An issue you could experience with that is there could be courses which might be needed. When I was ready to go back to college, I wanted one accredited university close to home with my chosen degree plans for an undergraduate then the MBA. I also asked a lot of questions and was upfront with my needs.

An employer wants to know what the person can provide for their company regarding skills NOT the college the person went to. Hope that makes sense.

    Best of luck!

  2. Combogalis, The best method to find out info is to contact a student. You can find some contact information for Iowa colleges here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Iowa-Coll... Students always seem to know what's up better than outsiders since they spend so much time on campus.
