My neighbors have a real problem if someone parks in front of their house if they are visiting me. We live in a downtown area, but in a small town so there is not a lot of parking. In their defense, my dh is kind of the same way. I don't get it. It's just a car in the street to me either way. What is the big deal? Please explain.

  1. I look at it this way, I don't care if someone parks in front of my house in the Spring,Summer or Fall but if we get a Big snowstorm and my husband shovels us out for two hours and then joe blow pulls in and stays there YES i am very upset. We live in Michigan and when we get snow we get snow.My husband has a bad back and that is very rude for someone to park in your spot and stay all night or even a very long time. A hour or two i don't care but anything Longer, in the middle of winter forget it.And if a visitor comes, the person they are visiting should direct them to a good spot because they know what their neighbor has just went through.

  2. I HATE THAT

  3. I had to laugh when I saw this question. Maybe because of where I grew up (across the street from an apartment complex), everyone knew the street was public space and open to whoever parked there.

Now I live in the 'burbs and I have this crazy old woman neighbor who goes ballistic if anyone parks in front of her house.  She puts out orange cones in front to keep anyone from parking there.

I admit it bugs me when another neighbor of ours parks his two huge vehicles in front of our house but leaves it empty in front of his own.  I don't get it.  I guess he & his wife don't like looking outside and seeing their own cars. They have an empty 2-car driveway, too.  So I guess it does bother me a little. But that's only because I don't know why they do this.  If someone is visiting, I don't mind them parking there at all.

  4. no. not if they aren't blocking my driveway or being loud and obnoxious in front of my house.

  5. I always thought that was stupid also.  I think some people are just "territorial".  It is sooooo stupid of them..

  6. its a public spot. i hate neighbors that think they own the road

where i used to live the neighbor parked in front of my house everyday. i didn;t care but  one day we parked there where he usually does and he had the gall to ask us to move it since we were just renters.

  7. As long as they don't block my driveway I don't care

  8. to me yes they do that all the time here.

they park near my place and walk across the street to someones house.

i wait a couple of hours and then call the tow truck

and the deal is that's their property they have every right to be mad.

  9. I don't have any problem with it, so long as they don't block my driveway, or park on my lawn.  My next door neighbor does though, he's a grumpy old man.....There is an extra parking space that is technically between our properties, and even though he parks nothing there, and never has in the 3 years we have been neighbors, he places a wooden sawhorse in the center of the spot, so no one else can park there.

I can't understand why anyone would care, especially if it is street parking.

  10. Haha -- that's what goes on in my neighborhood!  I think it's kind of pointless too, especially because city ordinance dictates alternate side overnight parking according to the date prior to midnight...odd numbered date/odd address side of the street and vice versa.....it's completely overly-complicated and strict.  But there are people on our street who totally flip out if they catch you outside and your car is parked in front of their house.  My friend/co-worker and I live on the same busy street in our city and her neighbor's adult children across the street have yelled at her because her car is in front of their dad's house......dad's been in hospice care for months....I think he's got bigger things to worry about than whether a neighbor's car is parked in front of his house.  We also have neighbors who have at least 5 cars they park on the street and every other night, they're parked in front of my house.  It's not worth getting irritated over, but it's ridiculous when people are confrontational over it.  We all just keep our mouths just because we work for the city's police department, are obviously too familiar with the parking ordinances and don't typically tell the goofballs in the city where we work for fear of retribution.  :)

  11. I guess it just makes people nervous having other people parked in front of their home.  Nothing you can do though.  It's a public street.  The neighbors should just get over it. *shrugs*

  12. Streets are public but people get very possesive about who is in front of their home.

I live next to a little league ball park.  Often, the people at the park get mad at me for parking in front of my house and leaving the driveway open because then they don't have a place to park.

Basically, people like to claim territory and are jealous about it.

  13. Yes, but really, it has more to do with neighbors who park in front of my house, and don't park in front of their own.  WT?  If they don't want to look at it, i sure as shoot dont either.  Maybe it stems from living with an assigned parking spot while living in an apartment during internship, and having to deal so often with people just parking in my spot regardless of the signs, and even with me pointing out to them in person that they just parked in my spot (one even argued they'd just be a minute).

  14. they don't own the street, so they don't have a say..

i suppose it would be annoying for them if it was in excess, but nonetheless, where are your visitors supposed to park?

  15. im ok with that, but what I really dont like is people parking on someones driveway when they go to visit. I think thats quite rude. it is far more polite to park in the street outside their house.
