Question:

Does it matter how to type?

Today in my computer class, we started to learn how to keyboard. The way you do it is put your fingers on the key. Today, I was striking the keys. She told me that wasn't the way to type and that it was old.

Does it matter? I don't really understand this. It doesn't matter as long as your typing right? I can't really type like that (finger on keys) since I was never taught how to type like that and I can't get use to it.

  1. No it doesn't matter, but I guess you'll have to type like how she said in order to pass the class. Most likely the way she taught you to type is more efficient than your method. Based on your description of your typing method, I think having your fingers on the keys is better. But really, it doesn't matter.

  2. By not leaving your fingers on the keys and striking them, you probably feel discomfort, no matter how long you do it. Leavin your fingers on the keys reduces stess on your fingers and really does allow you to type faster.

  3. Am I to understand they are criticizing the force with which you press the keys?

  4. No it doesn't make one bit of difference how you do it....except to this teacher who obviously is one who thinks they know better than everyone else....

as long as you can do it, in a reasonable amount of time and with no mistakes, s***w the teacher if they don't like it.

old school is almost always a better way than anything new that's coming around.

h**l, i can type faster with fewer mistakes with 3 fingers than almost anyone else in my office....lol....old school is almost always tried and true and better than the new.....

  5. Does it matter???  It does to the teacher, who is the one giving out your grade in doing the class her way.

If you're really 'striking' the keys with a loud clatter, then it's not a good way to learn.  Yes, that method was used on manual typewriters in the past.  However, the keyboard on computers are not designed to take that kind of punishment.  It will eventually fail.

At home, go ahead and type that way if it's comfortable to you.  But, within the class, you're gonna have to do it her way...or else.
