    Hope it helps!

  2. I would definitely prefer something with optical zoom as well. The quality of optical zoom is much better. I recently bought a camera (Canon Powershot S5IS) with optical zoom of 12X and 8.0 Megapixels) and cannot even begin to describe the difference that the optical zoom is making compared to my previous camera.

You can go to the following links where I found some real good advice which helped me to make a better decision. It gives good illustrations/ examples of the difference between the two kinds of zooms.

Good luck and I truly hope you will find the right camera for your needs.

  3. it can matter yes, depends what youre using it for.

Optical zoom obviously zooms by moving the lens so the camera focuses on your subject.

Digital zoom however takes the middle portion of the light sensor in the camera and blow it up to fill them whole sensor, which means the pixels are bigger and the more you zoom, the worse quality the picture comes out.

I personally never use digital zoom because the picture quality just gets awful, and by the sounds of it the camera you are looking at isnt one of the more expensive cameras on the market, which also wont help things.

    Hope that helps

  4. optical zoom - good

    digital zoom - bad

Optical zoom is the kind you want (if you want any at all).  I do most of my regular photography at the lowest magnification.  It's only fun stuff like astrophotography where zoom really matters to me.

Digital zoom is just a computer trick that you could just as easily do on your own computer without the camera.  It's a bad idea and I'd strongly recommend not using it.

  5. Its old fashioned but works ok ~~

  6. Optical zoom is preferable to digital zoom.

Optical actually uses the lens to magnify the picture resulting in a clearer image.  Digital just makes the pixels bigger and the picture tends to be fuzzy.

  7. it depends... if you want to take clear zoomed in pics then you need optical, or else you have to go right up to the subject to get it clear which isn't so usefull...

  8. Matters a lot, meaning that is one bad camera, and the lens it has sux. Optical zoom is the zoom that doesn't affect the resolution whereas digital zoom messes the quality up.

  9. Yes.... digital zoom just makes the picture bigger optical zoom gets you closer the item
