  1. Camilla automatically becomes Queen Consort when Charles ascends the throne. She is just choosing to be known as "Princess Consort" to mollify those who hold the memory of the late Princess of Wales,Diana, close to their hearts.

Whatever title she chooses to be known as doesn't really matter because she is not a reigning monarch;she will be consort, wife of a king. She will have no special powers to reign.

  2. charles wont be king though. William will

  3. I couldn't give a monkey's either way. Those people mean nothing to me.

  4. yes it will matter  A lot of people still feel bitter at how Diana was treated  long before she was divorced  if they have a strong marriage how will the name queen make it any better it will be the end of our traditions regarding our royal family

  5. No,no,no!Camilla does not deserve to be called queen! After what she & Charles did to Diana?

  6. Whenever the subject of the British Royal Family comes up I almost always think of the couple of chapters in "Huckleberry Finn" when Huck and Jim ran into the Duke and the Dauphin.

Realistically, Camilla and the Prince himself have about as much validity as those two charlatans

  7. if she gets the title  it won't matter you'll still have the faction that dislike her and hold her responsible  for the demise of charles's first marriage but time is showing things in a different light ...................she will be the wife of a king  and will always be by his side so even if she doesn't get the title she will still be his close confidant

  8. Well although the current Queen has said Camilla cannot be Queen, once Charles is King he will have the power to give her what ever title he wishes.

I suppose we will just have to wait and see what happens ...

  9. Does is matter?  What a blasphemous thought!  It matters absolutely.   As the Constitution and Rules of Succession dictate, she will remain with only the title of duchess when Charles ascends the throne, and can never be and will never be referred to as "Queen".    However, whatever Charles wants to call her in the privacy of his own home is his own business.   What I don't understand is why she's not the Duchess of Clydesdale instead of the Duchess of Gloucester.  Seems to make more sense, doesn't it?

  10. she should be Queen and will be for 1000 years who ever has been married to the king has been his queen.

there have been times when kings have openly lived with Mistresses yet the queen has always been the queen,

Dianna has nothing to do with it

  11. Nobody mentions what the lady herself wants.

She is an astute and canny lass. So far, everything she wanted she has got - eventually - even marriage to Charles. She hasn't shot her mouth off to the tabloids, as everyone else has. It doesn't seem to matter to her what she is called. Charles seemed much keener than she to get married!

If she wants to be known as Queen, you can bet that Elizabeth won't be off the planet for more than days before Charles announces it!

(As you can gather from above, I regret that Diana died so young and needlessly, but I wouldn't put Saint in front of her name!)

  12. It wont matter, at this rate she wont be the Queen for very long anyway. Liz dosent look like she'll be giving up any time soon, which is good as she's done a rather smashing job.

  13. As the above answers indicate, the subject is still a sore point for many Brits who will forever cast Camilla Parker Bowles in the role of "the other woman".  Whether the current Duchess of Cornwall goes by the title of Queen (as in consort) or not, she will be so in fact--if not in name--whatever public opinion is at the time of Prince Charles succession as England's [unwritten] constitution dictates.

At any rate, the lifelong romance of the Prince of Wales and his long-time mistress is the best argument this American can think of against "arranged marriages" and in favor of letting royal princess and princesses choose their own marriage partner.  Prince Charles had far more in common with Camilla than he did with  Lady Diana Spencer.  Of course, matters could be worse.  Henry VIII's numerous marriages come to mind.

  14. I think so long as she isn't created Princess of Wales, people won't complain too much. It is still a sensitive combination of words.

In 1936, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons went from Duchess of York to Queen Consort . I imagine the Duchess of Cornwall may also become Queen Consort when Prince Charles ascends the throne.
