I have an eye doctor, but I'm not particularly happy with him. I want to go in for my yearly exam and get contact lens. I'm going to need the multi-focal lens, but I'm not sure I can wear them because I have astygmatism in my left eye. I wanted to know if it matters....private practice eye doc or vision center. Like I said, I'm not that impressed with my private practice one, and unfortunately, I live in a rural area so my options on other private doctors are limited. I want to get a good exam, and the right lens for my condition, not just a quick sale. Any ideas? Opinions?

  1. It realyy does not matter. I used to go to a private clinics, but I found out I was paying way too much. Now I go to Walmart and the service is really good. My doctor is awesome!

  2. Personal opinion is that a ophthalmologist is much better, those typically are not at Walmart ect..

An ophthalmologist is a licensed physician who practices medicine. Ophthalmologists deal with refractive, medical, and surgical disorders of the eye, eyelids, and eye socket.

Optometrists are licensed practitioners are not physicians. They are trained to evaluate vision and to assess the health of the eye.

  3. Both Ophthalmologists and Optometrists are trained to exam and treat the eyes.  Traditionally, Ophthalmologists are trained in surgery and treat eye disease. Frequently, they have an assistant perform the exam and glasses measurement.

Optometrists are trained to exam, , prescribe contact lenses, glasses, therapy, medication for infection and glaucoma and even do minor in-office surgical procedures in some states.

Wherever you go to get your exam, the doctor has to be licensed to practice.

Optometrists are the Primary Eye Care  doctors and

prescribe/fit  the majority of contact lenses and glasses fit in the U.S.

  4. It really doesnt matter where you're going to get an exam. Wherever you go, the doctor will be a registered optometrist. So, you should be fine wherever you go =)
