  1. Hey,

Anybody any age can write novels but to get them published is another thing. I'm pretty sure kids can get their novels published because i watched a program where a teenage boy had his 3rd one published. However it's extremely rare and most publishers would turn you down, good luck :)

  2. If your book is good, a publisher will not care how old you are - they might even think it's a good market ploy to advertise how good the book is for how young you are. However, you will need your parents to sign any contract with any agent/publisher, until you are 18.

It's a good idea to have them sign, since they can read all of the legal terms and make certain you are getting a good contract.

  3. If you're under the age of 18 your parents would likely have to be involved to sign the contracts, which are legally binding documents and minors aren't allowed to enter into them, therefore they require the signature of an parent or legal guardian.  The reality is that's to protect you, most people that are adults aren't ready to sign a contract without having a lawyer going over it first anyway.

As far as publishing when you're young that's kind of difficult to say.  It's happened in the past but it's not very likely.  There are a lot of really good authors who receive rejection letters no matter what their age, but yes it's probably going to harder to get published is you're younger.  In part because of the writing but also because of the lack of previous work.  It sucks but publishers are not likely to want to take a chance at publishing an unknown author at any age because of sales.

If you're serious about it though my suggestion would be to enter various writing contests, some publishers even have contests geared toward new authors with the prize being publication.  There is also one publishing company I know of that is a little more willing to accept work from people under the age of 18 and are actually having a contest for a several different mediums.  You might want to check them out, they also have the submission guidelines for publication outside of the contest.

  4. not sure, you should ask your english teacher

  5. I wouldn't think so, but a young writer should at least flip through some of the basic writing instrucional books. It'd also be extremely difficult for them to get proper editors and publishers, and then to pay thousands of dollars to publish their book. I wouldn't tell them to give up though. I would advise them to take advice from some of their English classes and have peers or family members read your work. They'll be able to offer them suggestions and then the author would be able to greatly improve. A good novel does not come overnite though, so if the person was considering publishing, their has to be at least some significant changes made to the novel.

  6. They shouldnt; maybe you would need parental consent......try to contact a publishing company and ask them.....they might publich you're story........if you're talking about youre story.....

  7. If it's good enough to get published, it doesn't matter how old you are.

  8. Fairy Gal,

No, it doesn't matter what age you are, but if you're a minor you need the consent of a parent or guardian to get into a binding contract. It's just like in the movies where kids are cast as some of the main characters. These kids all have parental consent and all contracts are under the parents names with the kids legally written in.

What I would do is write a few short stories and see if you can get them published. Once again, you'll need your parents consent, but in the end you'll have a few stories under your belt that have been published, which you can use as a reference in reporting that you have been published.

    It's just a thought.

    Good luck!
