I'm looking to purchase my own gear for next year but I'm wondering if I can just go buying any board and any bindings? If not what should i be paying attention to?

  1. any binding are ok, but u should get the latest. so its easy to put on and take off when u are at the lift

  2. basically yes...but if you have a burton board you need burton bindings or bindings with a compatible burton center plate.

however, there are bindings designed for freeride and some for park. basically the park ones allow you to move your ankle more to tweak the board on tricks.

Aluminum base bindings tend to be more durable (plastic ones are tough!) but transmit more vibration to your feet so on hard icy landings ect youd feel it more in your feet.

Composite (plastic) bindings  are the way to go nowadays and the new models have the toe strap that goes on the tip of your toe which is more secure and more comfortable than the older models. However they do stick out a bit more so if you do alot of powder it may slow you down.

So its best to know where and what style of ryding your into to get the "perfect" binding. but yes any binding will do on any board unless its a burton board...but the adapter plates are usually easy to get.

  3. yes depends on what kind of riding you are going to do check out frostyrider they can show you what size and all that good stuff

  4. I'd recommend you get women specific (due to your avatar) that have a cap strap (toe strap). The more binding you've got on  you, ie cap strap, good ankle strap and high back, the more response you get. Also, try to get bindings that favour your particular area, like Freeride, Freestyle, Allround etc.

    Good luck!

  5. For the most part any bdingins that you want will fit on any board.  Burton does a crazy three s***w design rather than the four that is typical but you can buy a different insert for the bindings and make it work.

If you have giant feet you might want to make sure you get a wide board to go with your XL bindings, but other than that you should be fine, within reason.

Why not buy them both together at the same shop?  Then you know you'll get the right gear.
