  1. Yes, there are different speeds of routers.

The most common, and cheapest ones though, are 100Mbps, and would be just fine for 99% of home networks out there.

1000Mbps, or Gigabit routers are more expensive, and you won't notice a difference in internet speed at all.  You might notice a difference if you're transferring files between two computers on your network though, as it is "theoretically" 10 times faster.

The reason your internet wouldn't be faster is because the incoming connection isn't even close to being as fast as a 100Mb router's speed.  So, the bottleneck there is the internet, not the router.

  2. The quality of the router CAN make a difference if you are going to do computer-to-computer transfers, but if the primary reason is interent access, just about anything will work fine and you likely won't see any real speed difference.  Get a wireless router and disable the wireless radio in the setup.... that way if you get something that is wireless capable in the future, you'll have it already... the price difference is usually less than $10 between a comparable wired and wireless router.  Linksys WRT-54G (x) is a good, solid, inexpensive router with 4 wired ports in addition to the wireless capabilities.

  3. Hi...

U can get any router  and can use with cables..

U can use a cable between your router, modem and computer

    cheers...

  4. If you don't plan on going wireless, any router will do.  If you're concerned with quality, I suggest Linksys (been a user myself).  A WRT54G works great, plus I've had good experiences with their techsupport when I was just starting out.

I got my money's worth - still using it.  :)

All wired PCs doing fine.  I don't use wireless, although my friends and relatives who come by do.  Actually my wired desktops run faster than the wireless.

I won't recommend Gigabit routers unless your network is for an office that'll have heavy traffic both within the office and through the internet.  At home or a small office, best to keep it simple.
