hey i've been attempting to bmx for a while now and i can do a bunnyhop and a fakie and dirt jumping, but i wanted to know if the weight of the bike really matters or does the weight more depend on what the rider likes in a bike.. i have a diamondback joker (i forget what year it is) it has a decent amount of weight to it but it doesn't bother me. i'd say my bike is roughly 25-35 lbs.. is that too much.. and if so is there a way to make is lighter without having to buy a new bike or spending alot of money on new pieces like a new fork or handle bars?

  1. OK, I think a lighter bike is better. My daughter has a bike that weighs no more than 10 lbs. or lighter!!!!!You have to put a c**p load of money into it!!Her bike has costed me over $3,000 .Are you racing or jumping trails? It all depends on how you will use it.

  2. Weight is everything to a bicycle be it road bike, mountain bike, or BMX.

Easiest way to improve performance is to buy and mount the lightest tires and inner tubes.

Second is buy the lightest wheel set for your style of riding.  BMX tires will always weigh more than road tires.  That said, you will find BMX tires that are lighter than others.

Once you start buying lighter components, you are looking at diminishing returns.  More money for less performance gains.

Never forget the performance of the engine of the bicycle.  That being YOU.  Hit the gym and watch your diet.  Being strong and lean will do wonders for your bike's performance.

    Good Luck

  3. ok well its basically your preference,

if you like lighter bikes then yeah, but they are costly, and i think the make you got now is good..

and bikes, 25-30 is really light, considering road bikes are like 20 if that, and theres nothing to them. haha

and i think it matters what you like, and i think that bike has alot of positive feedback.

  4. YES! weight effects top speed and acceleration of the bike, however weight is somtimes good for some things, like some kinds of jumping, what you really want to look for is good geometry, or geometry that you like. Ask a bike shop.

If you want to save weight then take the brakes off and take off the gyro, you can also cut your seatpost and bars a bit
