  1. the only difference i know of is the thickness of the oil. some people say use gear oil and some say use 10w 40 or what ever it recommends. all my bikes have called for 10w 40 so thats what i use.but i've heard many people who say use gear oil. so i guess it doesn't matter.

  2. You should use Gear oil (80-90w) so that it doesn't heat up as much and thin out.

Using motor oil will work in a bind, but it thins out when it gets hot, and there is really no cooling mechanism within the Blaster gearbox.

Use Yamalube 80-85w and you'll be fine.  Honestly I used to put yamalube in my Honda 250r case.  Works great.

  3. real it doesnt matter i race a 89 yamaha blaster and i use yamahalube 10w30 really after you get done riding your bike hard you should change the oil anyways because your bike doesnt burn all the gas the it puts in so it goes in your gear box

  4. NEVER use gear oil in the crankcase of a 2 stoke engine.

    It's way to thick.

Use quality, brand name, 4 stroke motor oil - 10W30 or 10W40

  5. i use 10-w -30 in mine all the time and it does ok i haven't ever tried anything but that though,i always use what the manual says to use in it,id be afraid to run the thicker oil in it,maybe someone else has tried this before, good luck.
