Does it matter what you get your degree in?

I eventually would love to get a job in the entertainment industry. I'm not sure what kind of job exactly. Maybe work for a record label, or film production company. My dream job would be a musical supervisor (the guy that picks songs for movies/tv). At first I thought about getting a degree in business, but now am weary because I am no businessman. I was thinking about getting a degree in film recently, but don't know if that will impress employers etc.. Thank you for your answers.

  1. Agree w/ the double major thing.  Look into communications as well (like people in TV get).  It's not a difficult degree and has multiple purposes.

    Good luck!

  2. I've always thought a degree in "business" doesn't really prepare you for anything. Why not double major in business and music or business and film, etc.

  3. If you are good at something, it doesn't matter what you're degree is in.  If you want to go into a specific field, it is good to get a degree related to that field so that you can actually get through the door and get a job.  If you want to do something with music and film, you should go to school for that.  My friend is getting his masters degree from the University of Illinois in sound design so he can do just that.
