Does it matter where you get your MBA as long as it is accrediated?

I ask because i am in the military looking to get my business degree. We can only choose from a certain list of colleges (all of which are accrediated) but not necessarily by the AACSB. Does it really matter as long as the school is accrediated?

  1. Yes, from a being recruited by an employer or hired by an employer, standpoint. If you become employed, no. That is when your ability, knowledge, and networking kicks in.

For someone looking for money, I suggest the nursing field or a P.A.. That is where the present and future demand is located.

All of the present laying off and firings because of the banking situation is going to fill the tank with MBA's looking for jobs.

  2. It frequently does matter./ Many employers look at the quality of the school that you went to as a method of judging you.

  3. There are some jobs where the top schools can make a real difference, but if you are not headed for Harvard or the Wharton School at UPenn, I wouldn't give up, either. I'd look at the list you have to choose from, do some research to see what kind of reputation they have, and then apply to one or two at different levels--ones you are pretty sure you can get into, ones that might be tough, and so on. And, of course, take into account where you want to be living while in school.

I'd also suggest working on spelling--it makes an impression in business communication to those people who know the difference. The word is "accredited."

    Good luck!
