Does it matter whether Americans are fighting in Iraq, or Afghanistan instead?

Won't the people of those countries fight occupation, and be labelled terrorists in any event?

It probably doesn't matter whether Americans are in Iraq or Afghanistan. They'll be labeled terrorists no matter what because of the war. It's just pure American government ignorance.

Well, originally it did.  But we have bungled Afghanistan so badly it is likely we can never pull those people to our side now.  Had we had enough forces to provide security and better on-the ground intelligence to avoid collateral damage, then we may have had a chance.

Instead, we allowed a return to the Warlords, which is why the Taliban was able to take root in the wake of the Soviet departure.  The Taliban provided security to the people from the tyranny of Warlords who assumed control in the power vacuum.

Thus, we have made little progress in spite of the wonderful opportunity we originally had.  Thus the Taliban are fighting back, winning hearts and minds, and the al Qaeda are still extant and growing in number as they both unite against US and NATO occupiers.

Afghanistan was ruled by the Taliban that supported terrorism and Al Qaeda that attacked us on 9/11.

Iraq was ruled by Saddam who supported terrorism through other means.

As part of our war on terror we attacked both. The world will be a better place with new governments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bottom line is that I would rather fight terrorists OVER THERE then sit around here and wait for them to launch another 911 style attack.  We can argue all day long whether or not there were terrorists in Iraq before we invaded or not.  But that's not the point.  The point is that they're there NOW.  And between Iraq, Afghanistan, and even Iran, THAT is where we need to be to take the fight to THEM.  Not the other way around.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are where the true threats to USA are.  Not now in Iraq, not then in Iraq, not EVER in Iraq.

And a truly educated and coordinated strike on the countries which are harboring the terrorists would not be an occupation the length and likes of Iraq.  A well-planned military campaign would accomplish what they were sent to do instead of mucking around in a civil war enviroment that was there from the get-go.

No, not really. But at least Afghanistan is where "Bin Laden and his terrorist network are hiding".

If it were up to me, I'd use those resources for war and turn them to our own country for an unbiased, reinvestigation of 9/11.

i feel it is a grave strategic blunder to invade Iraq, which was ruled by a secular person Saddam, without accomplishing the task in Afghanistan ruled by religious terrorists, who attempted to send their country to stone age and who denied freedom to women and caused for the escalation of religious terrorism. in Iraq people are fighting for their freedom but where as in afghanisthan, some religious terrorists  are waging war in the name of religion  to bring dark age .

All these people (Muslim countries) ever wanted is/was to be left alone!

They did manage to thrive without western democracy and liberation long before they show up !!

9/11as sad and horrible event as it was,  was the result of US's conducts for the last decades, nothing else!

And invading a country

for no good reasons (but of course, oil & war profiteering!)!?!

I mean, how ridiculous and obscene is this?!!

Years have past since the invasion and what?!!

And now Zions are setting US up for another unjust war with Iran!!

This whole thing about fighting terrorism!!?? stinks to h**l!
