If you watched th Today show this morning, you saw people reactions to our maybe to be VP having five children, one pregnant, and one recently born with down's syndrome. The teenage daughter thing did not even strike a chord with me....but when I found out she had a newborn with down's and went back to work three days after he was born my mind started wondering if what some were saying was true. Can and should she lead the US (especially in the event she becomes first in command) and give the attention her family (especially her baby) needs?

I don't know....but I wondered your opinions.

  1. Look I'm all for women having careers if they want them; and I am even all for unassisted home births.  And I would consider staying home with a 1 month premature delivery BUT I sure as heck wouldn't be giving a speech and then flying.

I have to wonder about the common sense of such a woman.  Or worse I have to wonder if she wouldn't have been more concerned if she didn't know that baby had Down's Syndrome.  Abortion is wrong, but heck if the defective baby comes early I'm not going to save him?

Palin's announcement in March 2008 that she was seven months pregnant generated publicity and surprise, as did the circumstances of Trig's birth.[124] More than a month before the baby was due, she was in Texas to deliver the keynote address at a conference. While at the conference her water broke[125], reportedly at about 4:00 a.m. local time. She remained in Texas to deliver the speech before taking the eight-hour flight back to Alaska. She landed in Anchorage at 10:30 p.m. and drove to the Mat-Su Valley Regional Medical Center, arriving an hour later. She gave birth at 6:30 a.m. the next day; her physician induced labor but there were no other complications.[126][127] Palin returned to work three days later.[48]

Palin's youngest child, Trig, has Down syndrome, diagnosed prenatally.

  2. For starters, I hardly believe she went back to work 3 days after the baby was born. She was probably just getting out of the hospital.  I don't think you should believe everything that you hear or read. Also, to make an opinion about someone's decisions on their parenting is a little harsh.  She obviously is the bread winner, so she needs to continue to work. Don't you think a baby with disabilities require a little more medical attention than a healthy baby.  Furthermore, I'm sure the decisions she's made have been well thought out.  I hardly think she would be an elected official if she were mommy dearest.

  3. I just wonder if people would be asking the same question if it pertained to a man.

  4. A very poor choice just from her lack of judicial experience and knowledge of constitutional. I do not want someone like her a heartbeat away from a 72 year old man with serious health problems.

  5. i think they are both completely worthless...  i'm not sure we have a good candidate this election year.  i'm really scared to see the outcome of all this.

  6. I'm just surprised that she went back to work only three days after he was born!  That has to say a lot about someone.  I'm not even remotely against working mothers (I'm one myself), but why bother having a baby if you're not even going to take the first week of its life off work.

  7. I have NO idea how true this is, I have not researched anything but when I was driving to work this morning, the radio show was saying how the 3 month old isnt really her child, that she "faked" a pregnancy and took her daughters child as her own.

I am not saying this to start rumors LOL

This is just what I heard, and it was two males talking..they were basically just down talking her. How they are finding all of this out now, like they never background checked her and all this.

Everywhere I go I hear people talking bad about this woman, but I guess it comes with the territory. lol

  8. i see your side of it but i also see a side where there is an opportunity to watch a child with downs syndrome grow and thrive righ tin front of our eyes- which in turn will bring more attention and education to children with all kinds of disorders.  i think its admirable that she seems to be like so many of the families out there- instead ofthis polished and perfect, come from a wealthy family, everything given to her kind of lifestyle.

i am not a mccain or obama fan and wont be voting this term.  but, this is one of the few things i have seen in this election that has turned my head and made me think.  i think she has alot of insight and experience she could offer our country and leaders that could change the way things are done and the way the middle and lower class working men and women are treated. i also do not believe a mother has to stay at home vs work to raise happy, healthy, well adjusted, tax paying, positive citizens.  thats too 1950 for me.

thats just my opinion on her.

  9. What Rayza said...

Would you ask the same question if she were a man? No one would think twice if the father of a baby with downs syndrome went back to work days after he or she was born.

  10. She does, in fact, have the kind of job where she can make her own schedule-to a degree.  I would have to assume that her husband was at home when she was at work.  You are also assuming that her youngest with Down's is severely disabled which may not be the case.  There are many with Down's who live with little to no assistance what so ever.

  11. I think she can do it IF her husband is willing to be there for her and the family. She might have to consider getting a nanny or other part time help.

  12. Is (sorry, not much of a follower of US politics) Daddy staying at home...?

  13. I think she is refreshing.  During her pregnancy, once she found out that her 5-month old had an extra chromosome, she still carried the baby to term and happily welcomed it to her brood.  That is one of the many principles that she stands for - protecting and caring for sweet little babies that have no voice.  It's about time someone who we can trust to stand by their convictions is put in a place of prominence; she just happens to be a wife and mom.  I am excited to see what becomes of this election.

  14. I think she can handle her kids now -- as long as her health holds up.

But if she's going to be VP, that's another story. She'll be gone a lot.

She just doesn't want to pass up this opportunity, because it would have never happened under other circumstances.

I am sure that if she had been a man, McCain NEVER would have picked her.

  15. She doesn't believe in stay at home motherhood.  That's probably why she went back to work so soon.

I think she is most likely a very determined woman who wants to make a career for herself - at the cost of anything.

What bothers me more is that she is willing to take on this position knowing the situation her daughter is in and putting her daughter through all the media attention she is going to get now.  She's only 17 and is basically being forced to be in the public eye in what should be a very personal choice.

  16. If I had a baby with a disability and needs my full attention, my Husband and I will figure out a way so that I can stay home full time to care for him/her. Since we don't have family nearby to help and it is not possible then we would make some drastic changes to make it happen, like move in with family for a short while until we get back on our feet etc. Our child's health/safety is most important to us, if it weren't we wouldn't have kids.

  17. it is difficult my aunty and uncle were hard workers all there life then at 32 she had her first child with a disability- so she gave up work not even a 2nd thought about it, but found it so difficult money wise raising the child as he needed so much looking after  trips to the city every 2nd week for checkup's for the first year as they live in a remote community. and thats not cheap , they had to by a mini van to accomindate the wheelchair and back lift.  and the list goes on - but they coped it was not easy for them but they did it on 1 wage little james is now 13 years old and almost 7 feet tall so if the poor little bugger could stand/walk he would be huge bless him , they did decide to have a 2nd child even though they knew it was a huge risk the same thing would happen so at 37 she fell pregnant again and lucky this child was ok, but i think its great that she was willing to have another child i dont know if i could after going through all that the first time.

  18. So a woman who has a disabled child has no other option but to stay home and be a mommy?  The father isn't sufficient to help out, or other family members?

I'm so sick of women trying to keep other women down.  It's really sickening.

  19. Going back to work 3 days after having ANY baby, let alone a downs baby, I feel is a little heartless.  Yes it's great if women can have careers and a family, but really - a few months off at least would not have ruined her career, but would be much appreciated by a child who more so than normal needs their mum around them.  The pregnant daughter thing and her statement saying they support her decision to have the baby I feel is good - better than her being forced into aborting so her mums political career doesn't suffer but the leaving her baby thing does put me off.  But then I oppose Obama too seeing as he supports leaving babies that survive late term abortions to die.  But seeing as I'm english, I don't have to pick between them!

  20. I agree, your children should come first...after all they did not ask to be brought into this world, it is our responsibility to make sure they are cared and provided for....and this caring and providing from should come 1st and foremost from the mother (the baby's first few months are so important for creating that life long bond) ...if she went to work 3 days after giving birth, well let's just say, actions speak louder than words...

Palin however is no different than all other politicians; ruthless and conniving, I am not surprised at her decision, it seems like it is her MO....

Balance is the key to everything in life....A woman, can still find balance between her work and home life, she can still be a professional and find time to do the most important job on the planet; Being a "MOM"!!!!!
