By wire's, stakes, trellis's etc. This was the first year I grew tomatoes, i have read it can be hard, but I just threw the seeds on the ground. And know I have about 30 plants and they all produced tomatoes. And most of them grew along the ground or on the ground not held up by anything.

Does doing that produce more or bigger tomatoes? I already have allot of tomatoes not that I need more. But why do they usually need support?

  1. the main reason for supports, is so that they dont get damaged by slugs etc, and they dont sit in the damp and cause rot. it doesnt make any differnce to the amount or size of the tomato. its also more convienient for alot of people, and space saving too to hold em up.

if letting them grow on the ground works for you then thats all that matters.
