People say it doesn't and that employers want any degree. So would it be okay if I majored in illustration?

  1. Dear XOXO,

In this modern international age, an undergraduate degree is only a stepping off point. You need not decide on any future career path at this point. You need not decide on any major. College will provide you an opportunity to explore using your talents in a wide variety and heretofore unexplored areas.

The modern era has begun treating the undergraduate degree in the manner that forty years ago, employers demanded high school diploma's.

No it does not matter greatly what your degree is in. Yes, you can major in illustration, if that is your desire. In the field or Art, your portfolio is more important than your degree. You may not need a post-graduate degree but graphic art companies, studio's and other employers may still give an edge to those with Masters in Fine Arts, Graphic Design or post-graduate art school program certificates.

Take a deep breath. Relax and enjoy the next few years. See where your talent and interests take you. You have much time before you need place such pressure on your shoulders. But as you grow older and more mature you are better capable of handling the increasing pressure and stress in connection with any profession....

            Good Luck.
