Does it really rain in Vancouver that often?

I mean, people say that it is a great place for outdoors. That does not add up. If there is so much rain and they say there is, how can one comfortably do outdoors?

  1. ducks and vancouverites are related. They both go out in the rain and do not seem to mind it.

  2. It rains alot in Vancouver. Even in the summer, it just rained crazy yesterday. People always go outside though, even when its raining people are still outside.

    Hope this helped ;)

  3. we all have webbed toes

  4. basically from May to mid-October our weather is fine. Rain is the exception.  Mind you between November and April sunny days are the exception and the winetr is when we get all that famous rain. .

How does that jive with outdoor pursuits... well "rain" here isnt always the heavy wet downpours but more like misty, light on/off drizzle which is perfect for physical exertion.

Dress in fleeces or gortex and you get along just fine for hours outdoors.

  5. yeah it rains alot but i still love it here.

  6. Vancouver does get a lot of rain, but when it isn't raining the climate is perfect.  The good definitely outweighs the bad.

  7. While it does rain a lot there, it definitely isn't every day - and while a light drizzle is still called rain, it sure doesn't prevent you from doing anything. In the winter you can expect gray skies for a few weeks at a time, even rainy days for a few weeks at a time, but spring is gorgeous and summer is even better, sometimes with no rain at all. And, since the temperature is mild, never getting that cold and rarely getting overly hot, it is great for outdoor activities year round.

Here are some actual stats on the number of rainy days, the link also shows average temperature and precipitation hours, plus lots of other details.

"Although popularly thought of as being a rainy city, Vancouver has only 166 days per year with measurable precipitation on average, and 289 days with measurable sunshine. Nonetheless, from November until March, it is not uncommon for there to be 20 consecutive days with some amount of rain. The weather pattern known as the Pineapple Express often brings warm rainstorms in the winter."

  8. At least for the next seven days it looks nice if a bit cool. High temps ranging from 15 to 25 degrees C, with little rain in the forecast.

  9. It does rain a lot but when it's not raining the weather's great. Rain is kind of sporadic here.. it was pouring yesterday and it's the middle of summer!

  10. I was just in Vancouver for 10 days and it did not rain at all.  They said it had not rained in something like 45 days, which is very unusual.  I come from a place where it does not rain at all from April thru October... It is not a very good place for outdoor recreation in the summer because it gets way too hot.  In the Pacific Northwest it might rain more often but it doesn't get above 80 degrees F much at all.  After Vancouver we went to Seattle where it also rains a lot.  It didn't rain for 4 days but it did rain on the 5th day; it was just a light sprinkle and people were still jogging and shopping.  I prefer that light sprinkle and 70 degrees to no rain and 110 degrees!
